FLOOD FACTORS
Flooding is caused by several factors :-
Continuous rain
Continuous rain due to weather phenomena such as the monsoon season. Sometimes an unusual amount of rainfall will be recorded and will be causing floods to occur. In low-lying areas, rainwater will be drained into rivers. Rivers that are filled with sudden and unusual water will overflow and cause low-lying areas to be filled with water.
Urbanization process
The process of urbanization caused many areas to be modernized and end up a lot of open land is cemented which leads to water not being absorbed by the earth properly. Over time the stagnant water will increase and flash floods will occur.
River sedimentation and river erosion.
This incident frequently is caused natural erosion and the disposal of human domestic waste. Whereby natural factors occur when it rains heavily, the water flows rapidly and erodes the banks of the river causing it to collapse. Human factor through human activities such as disposing domestic waste and industrial waste into the river which causes the river to become shallow and the water flow blocked. Eventually the shallow or blocked river will overflow the bank and flood will occur.
Destruction of catchment forest areas.
Forests are used as a balancer for the world's ecosystems. Deforestation causes rain to continue falling to the earth without being absorbed by plants. Heavy rain caused water to flow into the river. At this time the overflow of river water will occur resulting in flooding.
The drainage system is not planned, not maintained, not perfect.
Common causes of flooding in the city is due to the lack of proper drainage system. A large amount of water causes water to overflow out of the ditch causing flash floods to occur. Besides, many drainage systems are either damaged, collapsed or uncleaned.
